Happy Father's Day Daddy lots of love, Adam and Farah xx
We went to Isaac and Ella's christening at Stafford. They have grown so much. They were extremely well behaved throughout, unlike their twin guests Mom had to take Adam and Farah out half way through as they were getting really fidgety
It was such a beautiful day, so we decided to drop by Biddulph Grange on the way home.

Canal Boat Tour, Amsterdam
|
|
Another 9 hour lay over in Schiphol. This time we took the train to Amsterdam Central and had a relaxing canal boat tour, something both me and Abar did not do on our visit 4 years ago. Have to say it was quite relaxing and you cover a lot of ground in just an hour.

We went to the flower market after that, but soon after it poured rather heavily, we scurried hurriedly into a nearby Indonesian restaurant which thankfully served halal chicken, so we feasted on sate ayam and chicken wonton soup whilst waiting for the weather to clear.
Home sweet home by 2000.
Alhamdulillah, all went rather smoothly, and both twins, Abar and me were OK, healthwise.
Chilling out now.. till my next fotopgae input

Giza

Saving the best for last!
We are back in Giza again after last night's Sound and Light show. It certainly is different upclose during the day. Each block of stone weigh an average of 2.5 stone, and thhere are >2million blocks to make up the Great Pyramid (Khufu) alone.
Abar's turn to explore the Khafre Pyramid. This is the one with the remains of the limestone casing at it's summit. Even though it is slightly smaller then pyramid of Khufu, it looks larger by virtue of being on higher groound.
Whilst he was away, the twins and I went to the Solar Boat Museum which was air conditioned yipee!!

On the way back to Afendy's, we stopped a man who had a cartful of yummilicious honey sweet watermelon. The tour guide and driver haggled like mad and we managed to get each watermelon for 20 Egyptian Pounds! Farina made lovely watermelon juice and I must have one whole watermelon all to myself Very happy indeed!
We left their place at 0200 the next morning to catch our 0415 flight to Amsterdam the next day.
An action packed week indeed

Home of two pyramids, Bent and Red Pyramid.
The Bent Pyramid is considered to be one of the first proeper pyramid because prior to that pyramids were stepped (like the one in Saqqara). They had to change the angle halfway as the structure threatened to be unstable should they proceed on the same incline.
The Red pyramid was named after the ancient red graffiti inside, and its building blocks also had iron oxide which gave it a reddish tinge.
Left the twins with Abar in the van and ventured down into its passageway into three chambers
Later Adam had a go on the tourist police's camel (of course in return for some baksheesh )
On the way to Giza we saw the Black Pyramid (Pyramid of Amenemhat III) in the distance

Memphis

Memphis used to be large and prosperous, however foreign invaders torn all the magnificent temples and palaces down, and what was left is gathered together in a small open-air museum.

Afendy/Farina's and Giza (Sound and Light)
|
|
We made our way to Maadi, where Afendy, Farina and family are. Such a beautiful residential area south of Cairo, leafy and cool.Lovely to have finally met them and their gorgeous boys. Adam and Farah also had a ball making friends and playing with their toys! Thanks a lot Afendy and Farina for your hospitality, you made us feel so welcomed, and it was so nice to be able to finally relax in your place after our nomadic 8 days

They took us to see the Sound and Light show at Giza that evening, good tip is to buy dinner at either KFC or Pizza Hut, then go up to the roof terrace to have your meal and you are guaranteed to have the best views ever.
