Philae, Aswan

Temple of Philae is another temple relocated by UNESCO following the construction of the High Dam. It took them 8 years (1972-1980) to complete the whole project. Now it is on the island of Agilika.

We saw the Sound and Light show, must say it was pretty special seeing all the monuments being lit up at night.

Abu Simbel

Flew to Aswan the night before, and an early start the next day as we had to take the 0715 flight to Abu Simbel, which is about 270km south of Aswan.

The Great Temple of Abu Simbel and the smaller Temple of Hathor are breathtaking. You just can't imagine how UNESCO managed to cut them from the mountain and moved them to this new site when Lake Nasser threatened to engulf them following the ocnstruction of the High Dam in Aswan.

Citadel, Cairo

The next day, we visited the Citadel where you get superb views of Cairo, in fact you can even see the Pyramids from here. The Mohammed Ali MOsque is also quite spectacular.

Cairo

We arrived in Cairo on 20/5/2007. Went to the Egyptian Museum - highlights include the Tutankhamun Galleries and Royal Mummy Room. Farah esp looked quite intrigued at all these mummies in their glass cases. Too bad no pictures were allowed.

Here is Farah in King Tut's breakfast room

Keukenhof, The Netherlands

We broke our journey in Amsterdam on route to Egypt and visited Keukenhof. Famous for its tulips,we caught the tail end of their display.

The tulips on my last visit 5 years ago were more impressive as it was early April, but this time there were other bulbs on display, such as the hyacinths, rhododendrons, giant allium.

Kids had a great time at their petting zoo. Animals were so tame, the goat chased Adam because he had a biscuit in his hand

Adam kedekut though, tak nak kasik, in the end we manage to persuade him to feed his soggy biscuits to the ducks

Ballintoy Habour, Dunluce Castle

Rugged li'l harbour. Few caves/fort on its shores.

Nearly the end of our visit here.. we dropped by at Dunluce Castle for a photo stop.

Also sipped lovely hot chocolate by a log fire at a really cute cafe called The Wee ?Cafe opposite Dunluce Castle. Did I tell you Adam and Farah both inherit my love for chocolate? Hmm.. think we may have a problem here

Here are more pics of Dunluce Castle and Ballintoy Habour

Carrick-a-rede

Also known as the Rope Bridge. Swaying precariously over a 24mtr chasm to Carrick-a-rede island. Read Ayatul Qursi and the 3 Quls before crossing as the wind was pretty strong, about 30mph the National Trust Guide said! Farah wasn't perturbed at all! She was singing the whole way
